a) Walnut Shell abrasive is a hard and fibrous product made from crushed walnut shell. It is the most common type of soft abrasive for industrial use.

b) Walnut shell products are bio-degradable, non-toxic, and environmentally safe.

c) Walnut shells were originally developed for cleaning gasoline and diesel engines due to its lack of silicon and toughness. It will clean metals, alloys and plastics without scratching or pitting the surface.

d) Walnut shell abrasives are specially manufactured to eliminate mineral contamination and/or metal contamination.

  • Walnut Shell Media / Walnut Shell Grain Physical Grades Available:

a) READE offers over 30 grades of processed angular shape walnut shell to USS Sieve sizes.

b) Two separate milling processes are used to manufacture our fine grades.

c) One mill produces sharp, angular, multi-faceted particles, the other produces round particles.

d) Sizes 35/60  and 40/60 can be produced with either shape. Sizes 40/100 through 60/200 are standard in only the round shape.

e) Coarse Mesh Grades: 4/12, 6/10, and 8/12

f) Medium Mesh Grades: 10/20, 12/20, and 14/30 (coarse)

    • Walnut Shell Media / Walnut Shell Grain Typical Applications:

    a) Nut plug, Cellulosic fiber, Filter media, Blasting (typical substrates are metals, fiberglass, woods, plastics and stone), Jet blast, Deburring, Dermabrasion, Polishing (used for polishing or cleaning fine metals, alloys, mechanical parts, shell cartridges, eye glass lens, rocks, stones, coral, ivory, beans, and seeds), Cosmetics (used as an exfoliate in facial, body and foot scrubs), Fillers & Extenders (paint and coating materials, resins, pigments, plywood, adhesives, ceramics, dynamite, tile and livestock feed), Biodegradable bedding for birds, reptiles and small animals, Carriers, Oil industry,

    b) Blast cleaning with walnut shell abrasives are now commonly used to remove everything from paint, rust, chemical and carbon deposits, to lacquer and scale. One of the most popular use is the deflashing of molded plastic parts.
