Black Beauty® Abrasive Nominal Physical Sizes Available:
a) Medium Grade: A medium grade used for general purpose repair and maintenance blasting; removal of paint and rust; structured steel, mill scale, general purpose and aggregate exposure.
b) Fine Grade: A fine grade used for new construction, light paint and rust removal, and for special maintenance applications requiring reduced profiles (bridge maintenance, light mill scale, paint, rust, and new structural steel).
c) Extra Fine Grade: An extra fine grade used to clean surfaces and create a smooth finish, Brush-Off Blast, or in a high- pressure water blast system
d) Elite Grade: If your project requires a specialized blasting abrasive, we can help. Using our proprietary processes and superior blending capabilities, we can fine-tune your blasting abrasive to Elite Gradations
e) Military Specification Grade:
MIL-A-22262B(SH)
1) Black Beauty abrasive meets this military specification, which requires non-metallic abrasive materials used in the blast cleaning of metal surfaces and glass reinforced plastic surfaces. This includes ships' hulls and tanks, for removing rust, scale, old paint and marine growth and to provide surfaces that are clean and suitable for painting.
2) The fine and extra fine grades of Black Beauty abrasive are military QPL approved to specification MIL-A-22262B(SH).

Black Beauty® Abrasive Typical Applications:
a) BLACK BEAUTY blasting abrasive applications span a wide range of industries and applications to remove surface coatings and contaminants such as rust, paint and scale.
b) It is used frequently as a blasting abrasive on sea faring vessels, tanks, aggregate exposure, castings, structural steel, buildings, railroad equipment and bridges.
c) BLACK BEAUTY roofing granules can be found throughout the asphalt shingle, modified bitumen and foam urethane industries.4) Other uses for BLACK BEAUTY coal slag products encompass water filtration, mineral filter media, sealcoat aggregates and nonskid coatings, to name a few.
d) BLACK BEAUTY is used to seal coat highways and parking areas.

Black Beauty® Abrasive Safety Comments:
a) When used as a blasting abrasive, carefully review and follow the recommendations stated in ths HARSCO Material Safety Data Sheet external link.
b) "High free silica" products have been found to increase the risk of silcosis. BLACK BEAUTY® abrasive is classified as "low free silica" abrasive and can be used when "low free silica" abrasives are specified.
c) NIOSH has recommended since 1974 that silica sand (or other substances containing more than 1% free silica) be prohibited as an abrasive blasting material and that less hazardous substitutes be used.
