a) Chemical Name: Carbon
b) Chemical Formula: C
a) Composed of pure carbon, naturally mined diamonds have an isometric crystal structure, the most common being octahedron. There are both industrial and gem diamonds. Total world production of natural diamonds is around 38.5m. carats a year of which 27m. are of industrial grade.
b) In addition, approximately 60 to 80m. carats of synthetic industrial diamonds are produced each year,. Synthetic diamonds accounts for more than 1/2 the total worldwide production. They are made by subjecting graphite to very high temperatures and pressures in the presence of a metal catalyst.
Naturally mined diamonds, synthetic diamonds and single crystal diamonds are available. Purities are available from as high of a typical purity of 99.99% down to lower purity recycled diamonds.
Numerous particle size options are available from as large as 10 MM pieces / buttons down to various standard sizings between 0 and 100 microns
