  • Intermetallic (Aluminide) Powder Description:  

a) Intermetallics are based on ordered Intermetallic alloys. These alloys have a different atomic arrangement than that of conventional alloys. Below the critical ordering temperature, alloying atoms in ordered intermetallic alloys arrange themselves periodically and form a superlattice crystal structure.

b) Note that many intermetallic compounds are often simply called alloys, even though strictly speaking they are not. For example, complex metallic alloys are intermetallic compounds with large unit cells. Source: Wikipedia

c) Unlike conventional alloys, which have weak atomic bonds, ordered metallic alloys have a strong chemical arrangement that reduces the mobility of atoms and results in good structural stability and resistance to high temperature deformation.

d) Compared with nickel-based alloys, aluminides have superior high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and lower density, which can result in significant end use benefits such as smaller part cross sections and lighter weight components for aircraft and automotive applications.

e) Nickel, iron, and titanium aluminides are prime candidates to replace nickel-based alloys and stainless steels in applications requiring high temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
