- Magnesium Oxide / Magnesia Designations:
Chemical Formula: MgO
- Magnesium Oxide / Magnesia General Description:
a) Magnesium oxide (sometimes called magnesia) is formed commercially by heating magnesite to 600-800 deg. C, which drives off most of the CO2. It has good thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures
b) Magnesite- A mineral composed of MgCo3
c) Magnesite Grain- dead-burned magnesia in granular form in size suitable for refractory purposes
d) Seawater Magnesite- Dead-burned magnesia made by a chemical process using seawater or other solutions (brines)
e) Periclase- The high temperature form of magnesia
- Magnesium Oxide / Magnesia Nominal Chemical Properties Available:
a) Theoretical composition of magnesite: MgO= 47.8% and Co2= 52.2%
b) Pharmaceutical Grade: Must conform to the USP, JP, and BP specifications
c) Food Additive Grade: Must conform to the FCC specification
