- Single Crystal Background:
a) A single crystal solid is a material in which the crystal lattice of the entire sample is continuous and unbroken to the edges of the sample, with no grain boundaries. The opposite of a single crystal sample is an amorphous structure where the atomic position is limited to short range order only. In between the two extremes exist polycrystalline and paracrystalline phases, which are made up of a number of smaller crystals known as crystallites.
b) Because of a variety of entropic effects on the microstructure of solids, including the distorting effects of impurities and the mobility of crystallographic defects and dislocations, single crystals of meaningful size are exceedingly rare in nature, and are also difficult to produce in the laboratory, though can be made - under controlled conditions (see also recrystallisation).
c) Because grain boundaries can have significant effects on the physical and electrical properties of a material, single crystals are of interest to industry, and have important industrial applications.

Single crystals are synthetically grown crystals produced from a pure compound.
Purities are available from READE as high of a typical purity as 99.999% down to low purity recycled abrasive grains or powders
Numerous shape and size options are usually readily available from READE as large as 50 mm grinding and tumbling media down to as small as 20 - 100 nanometer particles.
Used for abrasives, piezoelectric & electric applications, surface studies, semiconductors, optics, electro-optics, acousto-optics, laser, optics and microwave.
Jars, pails, drums, multiply paper bags, bulk bags and fiberboard containers. For further information on packaging options contact READE
