Data Mining Boosts New Materials Searches
Abstract: The production of new materials has traditionally been done by
experimentation, followed by painstaking characterization to determine the materials
properties.
Computational techniques have also been employed to predict the structure and
characteristics of a given mixture, even though such virtual screenings require a
significant amount of money and time due to the large number of potential structures to be
studied.
To overcome these challenges, a group of scientists at MIT in Massachusetts are using data
mining to facilitate the search for novel materials.
