Leadership

Five generations of family leadership at Reade dates back to the establishment of the company’s specialty chemical manufacturing business in America by Elizabeth Reade in 1883. Family ownership and operation of the company, with the ongoing support of invaluable industry experts on the Reade team, have ensured continuity of vision, values, and service that is unrivaled in the specialty chemicals industry today.

Charles F. Reade Jr.

Chairman

Charles has dedicated most of his life to the company that bears his family’s name, starting with manufacturing shifts in the plant producing magnesium and aluminum powders in his early years to three years as the company’s Sales Manager to 17 years providing vision and leadership as President. In his current role as Chairman, Charles offers strategic guidance on exporting raw materials and shares his material and technical expertise with our sales team. He is a distinguished graduate of Army ROTC, an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, a decorated Green Beret military officer and Vietnam War veteran, and the 1999 recipient of NASA’s Commitment to Excellence Award. As the fourth-generation Reade family member to lead the business, “metals and metal powders are his heritage,” as one industry journal wrote in 2001. Charlie is more poetic, recalling how, as a boy, he tagged along to the Reade plant with his father, Charles F. Reade Sr.: “I’ve been in love with powders since I was 7 years old.” Charlie is a proud Mason and veteran who enjoyed past volunteer work as a Eucharistic minister and interfaith chaplain; a long-time member of the New York Yacht Club; and the loving grandfather to four extraordinary grandchildren.

Emily Reade

As President of Reade Advanced Materials, Emily focuses on analyzing business matters company-wide and offering constructive solutions that work for all involved, whether the issue is pricing, payment, shipping, personnel, office workflow, or operations. She mentors people throughout the organization, encouraging them to develop their talents and skills to advance company initiatives as well as their careers. And with the opening of Reade International Ltd. S.A., Emily enjoys working with our team in Panama City and expanding the company’s export sales as she hones her Spanish language skills. “It’s extremely rewarding to watch confidence and capabilities grow with all company team members through coaching and encouragement,” she says. Previously, Emily was Vice President at Reade and Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager with Citibank North America’s Private Banking Group. She is a cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College, with a bachelor’s degree in history. In 2020, she was the recipient of the Leaders and Achievers Award from Providence Business News. Away from her leadership duties at Reade, Emily loves to garden, cook, and spend “grandtime” anywhere with her four grandchildren.

Bethany Satterfield

As Vice President at Reade, Bethany is responsible for product selection, ensuring the chemical and physical properties of the products we source meet our customers’ material requirements. In her 35+ years at Reade, Bethany has watched numerous research projects go from the start-up phase to commercial production. In each case, her knowledge and experience have been instrumental in defining the right raw materials for the job. Bethany holds a bachelor of science degree from Western Michigan University. “Away from Reade, I find joy working with my children on their school projects, especially helping my son memorize the periodic table,” she says. Like mother, like son.

As our Controller, Amanda brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in financial management, business operations, and process optimization to the table while providing valuable guidance and support to customers and colleagues to ensure our company runs smoothly and efficiently. “One thing I love about Reade is how every day is an opportunity to learn something new, whether it is a new application for one of our materials, visiting one of our vendor’s plants and observing their operations, or learning about new sustainable materials,” she says. Amanda received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Vermont. She is also a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and earned a Certificate of Professional Achievement after completing the MPIF Basic Powder Metallurgy course. Ana shares an anecdote that reveals to what lengths she will go to ensure customer satisfaction. “A customer called me around 7:00 p.m. while I was shopping at the supermarket,” she recalls. “He said he was only going to steal 10 minutes because he knew I was busy. An hour and a half later, we ended a very productive business call and I had a shopping cart full of groceries.” Ana holds a bachelor’s degree in humanities with a concentration in English from the University of Panama and also has completed customer service training at Four Points Sheraton.
