Titanium Carbonitride Powder
Key words:
Titanium carbonitride; TiCN; cermet; submicron; phase; sintering
Designations:
Chemical Name: Titanium Carbonitride (30:70) and (50::50)
Chemical Formula: TiCN
General Description:
A high performance coating a step above plain titanium nitride with improved properties for milling, forming, and punching tools. These tools encounter excessive mechanical stress at their cutting and forming edges. This material is wear resistant and tough providing an excellent finish on "gummy" materials.
Typical Chemical Compositions Available:
Typical Chemistry (wt%):
a) TiCN 30:70 Grade: Total C= 6.3, Free C= 0.1, Fe= 0.1, O2= 0.6, and N2= 14.2
b) TiCN 50:50 Grade: Total C= 10.1, Free C= 0.1, Fe= 0.1, O2= 0.6, and N2= 10.2
Various granulations all finer than 5 microns, i.e., APS (FSSS) of 1.4 microns

High hardness, good wear resistance, very tough coating; for difficult-to-machine steel alloys when taps encounter excessively stressed cutting edges, and highly abrasive and/or gummy materials such as cast iron, brass, and aluminum alloys; use when high feed and speed rates are desired. Good diffusion barrier
