Olivine

Chemical Name: Olivine

Chemical Formula (Approx.): (MgFe)2SiO4

A naturally occurring mineral composed of a solid solution of magnesium ortho silicate, (forsterite, Mg2SiO4) and iron ortho silicate (fayalite, Fe2SiO4). Olivine crystals are angular with sharp edges. the product is hard, dense and heavy. It has good insulating values due to a low heat conductivity. It is essentially hydration-free. It has a high refractoriness level ~1760 deg. C. It is essentially inert and has high chemical and mineralogical stability .

MgO= 45% to 49%, SiO2= 39% to 42%, FeO= 6% to 8%, CaO= 0.2% to 0.3%, Cr= 0.1% to 0.4%, Ni= 0.1% to 0.3%, Al2O3= 0.2% to 0.8% and Trace Elements= 0.3% to 0.5%
