Sulfur Metal (Powder/Granule/Pellet)

Chemical Name: Sulfur
Chemical Formula: S

Known in ancient times as brimstone, sulfur is essential to life. It is a pale yellow, odorless, brittle, nonmetallic solid. Sulfur has unusual optical and electrical properties and is a good electrical insulator. It occurs native near volcanoes and hot springs and readily combines with many elements. A large amount of sulfur is used in the production of sulfuric acid, which some refer to as the most important manufactured chemical.

Elemental sulfur is used in in the vulcanization of rubber, black gunpowder, matches, and fireworks; as a fungicide and insecticide; and in the treatment of certain skin diseases. The principal use of sulfur is in the preparation of its compounds. The most important sulfur compound is sulfuric acid. Other important compounds include sulfur dioxide, used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant, and refrigerant; sodium bisulfite, used in paper manufacture; carbon disulfide, an important organic solvent; hydrogen sulfide, sulfur trioxide, and thionyl chloride, used as reagents in chemistry; the numerous sulfate compounds; and sulfa drugs.
