Neodymium Metal & Powder

Chemical Name: Neodymium

Chemical Formula: Nd

Neodymium is a soft, malleable, silvery-white metal that becomes yellowish when exposed to air. It is one of the more reactive rare earth metals. Neodymium quickly tarnishes in air, forming an oxide that spalls off exposing fresh metal to further oxidation. It has a high electrical resistively and is paramagnetic.

Used in special alloys and glasses and in electronics, also in the manufacture of steel and in alloys; especially in cigarette lighter flints. In ceramics it is used as a glaze and to color glass. The crude oxide is used to counteract the green color in iron in glass; and the more pure compound is used in the
manufacture of purple glass. This glass can also be used as a substitute to a ruby in a ruby laser.
