Metallo-carbohedrenes, a stable buckyball-like molecular cluster, hold promise as chemical catalysts and superconductors.
Researchers at Pennsylvania State University (PSU) have developed back in 1993 methods for producing significant quantities of metallo-carbohedrenes (Met-cars), which are hollow molecules of carbon and metals analogous to pure carbon fullerenes. Met-cars are thought to have potential as catalysts, semiconductors and superconductors, but attempts to manufacture them in quantity had been unsuccessful prior to the work by the PSU group.
Chemists at Pennsylvania State University (University Park) have published a recipe for cooking up batches of a new class of molecules known as metallo-carbohedrenes MET CARS
