Powder Metallurgy (P/M) Alloys

The National Center for Excellence in Metalworking (NCEMET) has established for civilian use the Powder Metallurgy Materials Engineering Knowledge Base representing over 15,000 experimental test results generated over a three year period. As such, efforts continue to enhance the presentation of the information and to confirm the accuracy and utility of the data.

The Powder Metallurgy Materials Engineering Knowledge Base has been developed as part of the Materials Standards for Powder Metallurgy Alloys project. The project was supported by the US Navy's Manufacturing Technology (MANTECH) Program through the NCEMT.

The Powder Metallurgy Materials Engineering Knowledge Base consists of mechanical and physical properties for 128 powder metallurgy alloys, drawn from ten alloy systems with variations in composition, carbon content, density and heat treatment.

The project results have been made available to the the domestic manufacturing industry through the Powder Metallurgy Materials Engineering Knowledge Base and through the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF)'s publication, MPIF Standard 35 Materials Standards for P/M Structural Parts.
